For her equally impressive commitment to the work of MESA’s affiliated societies including the Ottoman and Turkish Studies Association and the Middle East Librarians Association;
For her tireless work in university administration, in professional unions and organizations, on boards of academic journals, and as an advisor and advocate for an international community of younger scholars. Whenever one of her many communities calls, she answers.
It is an honor to recognize Virginia H. Aksan, a model scholar-citizen whose vision, talent and generosity of both hand and spirit have facilitated scholarly and communal exchange among so many groups and to the betterment of all.
